Preprimary

Nursery, LKG & UKG The child attempts to understand the world around him and develops a strong foundation for formal education.

Pre primary has three levels of learning according to age:

Level I- Pre KG (2 ½ to 3½years)

Level II- Lower KG (3½ to 4½ years)

Level III- Upper KG (4½ to 5½ years)

The Pre primary section teachers are well trained and qualified to handle children with utmost care and affection so that they develop a sense of belongingness and respect for their teachers. They are trained to respect the individuality and natural proclivities of the child in the process of acquiring knowledge through hands-on experience.

The School helps children to learn and grow in a warm and stimulating environment which makes learning fun and an ever cherishing experience. We try to create an environment where children not only learn, but also love to learn. The pre primary school curriculum has been designed to nurture the tiny tots and develop their innate creativity.

The program is aimed at the following developmental domains.

Personal, Social, Emotional Development:This domain develops self-confidence and the successful ways in which one can interact with friends and adults. Display a positive disposition to learn, to cooperate and to respect the environment.

Mathematical Development: This domain develops the use of appropriate mathematical language, problem solving / critical thinking and perception process which enables children to expand their understanding of numbers.

Creative Development:This domain develops expression of their ideas and thoughts by using wide range of suitable materials.

Knowledge and understanding of the world around them:Under the supervision of experienced and dedicated teachers we help your child understand and explore his immediate environment and the physical world. We also try to inculcate them the basic technique of exploring, questioning and drawing conclusions from their learning.

Cognitive Development:Our curriculum at the pre primary school level has been designed to introduce mathematical concepts in a simple and tangible manner concentrating on one attribute at a time and progressing gradually. The lessons are properly planned fostering development of problem solving abilities through activities, observation, analysis and discussions.

Language arts and phonics:Throughout the pre primary school years, emphasis is laid on comprehension, making it an integral part of language development. Phonics is used to teach English in a structured manner. The prime objective of the program is to develop the habit of reading and speaking within your child.

Dedicated Pre Primary Space:Our school has a space dedicated for pre primary section, a comfortable place for self learning, through creative books under the supervision of teachers.

It fosters development of gross motor skills, stamina, balance, rhythm, strength, agility and concentration through variety of indoor and outdoor games and activities.

Small class size & Individual Attention:In order to provide proper individual attention, we maintain a very healthy teacher-student ratio in each section.

Thematic learning through Field trips:A very important aspect of the curriculum, we provide an opportunity to our children to experience real life situations by taking them for visits to the post offices, fire station, etc. thus enriching the learning experience.

PRIMARY

Classes I-V-The child masters the basics of various subjects and develops understanding of several curricular and co-curricular activities, which foster holistic personality development

The primary school program at St. Mary's is based on findings in behavioral and developmental psychology and educational research. That means that St. Mary's provides primary school students the opportunities for exploring and adapting their understandings. Such an approach is based on research showing that knowledge is best gained and retained when it is constructed.

Teachers use assessment results to modify their teaching and differentiate learning to meet student needs. Students develop both the content knowledge and their skills in creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.

The primary school incorporates myriad teaching approaches to ensure that lessons are varied, that they cater to different learning styles, that they provide sufficient challenge, and that they allow the students to feel considerable success.

The primary school curriculum is planned as an extension of pre primary, focusing on all the developmental areas. The curriculum includes a well structured schedule that blends learning and play, all carefully orchestrated for inspiring the kids to enjoy and learn, expand their horizons and improve their imagination and creativity. It is trans-disciplinary, thus helping students to correlate the learning with the real world scenarios. The objective is to inculcate self-study skills in the students, an essential element for success in middle and high school.

The focus is on developing the basic concepts in core subjects (English, mathematics, sciences, Fine Arts and physical education) through activities, projects, and work-sheets.

English

English curriculum has been divided into the four key areas of - SRW (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing). The tools used to foster development in the above mentioned key areas are guided reading program, show and tell, role plays, drama, songs, poetry, story-telling, essays and short story writing. These pave way for self-expression. Participation in the classroom discussions is a very important tool for language development and it is highly encouraged at St. Mary's.

Mathematics

At St. Mary's we try to make theoretical and mundane subjects like Mathematics conceptually interesting and fun oriented. The students are taught and encouraged to go beyond the books and apply the concepts taught to the real world problems. By the end of the primary school, children will be very confident in handling problems pertaining to numbers, shapes, measurement and data analysis.

Sciences

The school curriculum lays due emphasis on experimentation as it enhances the understanding power of the students and makes the subject interesting for them. Children spend an ample time in various labs (physics, chemistry and biology) to verify and validate their hypothesis on various aspects on learning. Even equal importance is paid to Social sciences enabling students to become aware of the community and the nation, and duly understand their roles and responsibilities towards the society and community.

Physical Education

Games cultivate a sense of sportsmanship and team. At St. Mary's, the children are exposed to various sports - basketball, volleyball, tennis, kho-kho, Kabaddi, softball, speed ball, badminton etc. for their physical as well as mental well being.

MIDDDLE SCHOOL

Classes VI-VIII-Middle School curriculum has been designed to prepare the children for more rigorous academic requirement for high school.

The stimulating, exciting, safe, academically enriched, integrated-learning environment of St. Mary's is conducive for a smooth transition from home to school under the able guidance of high-caliber, knowledgeable, reflective and qualified early childhood professionals using the latest trends in education.

Children in this age group are introduced to a variety of activity-based, stress-free learning to motivate them to be the best active agents in his/her own environment. Qualified and well experienced facilitators allow them to grab the opportunity to discover their hidden talents; to excel in the chosen area and spruce them well in all aspects through rigorous, joyous and ingenious engagement. The learning strategies include drama activities, role plays, co-operative games, projects, picture talk, oral & visual comprehension, discussion, written activities, multimedia edutainment etc.

A comprehensive learning ecosystem serves the right opportunity for a well balanced intellectual and physical development. No child under our care is confined to only classroom learning but all possibilities to grow and glow in extracurricular activities are explored as well.

SECONDARY

Classes IX-X -We focus on getting the child's fundamentals right to ensure s/he is ready for the stream s/he wishes to pursue whether in India or abroad.

The 'How' of learning is, at this age, more important than the 'What' of learning!

St. Mary's follows the syllabus set by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, from class VI to X. High Schooling envisions focused education to channelize and fit the students into the needs of the international demands. This equips every child to proudly say that they are the torchbearers of the future.

ASSESSMENT PATTERN:

Different students have different learning styles and perform differently according to the context of learning. Continued monitoring of each child's progress helps the teachers assess a child's behavioral skills and customize the lessons according to the child's ability to learn.

Co-Scholastic

THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT

The student government is headed by Head Boys and Head Girls, and includes the Student' Council, the Cultural Society, the Debating Society, the Quizzing Club, the Environment Club and the Social Service League, with each body having a president a secretary and members. There is also an Editorial Board, comprising of Editors, Deputy Editors, Art Editors, Special Correspondents and Photo Editors, which brings out the annual school publication Dips Diarys, every year.

SPORTS & GAMES

Co-curricular Activities

St. Mary's believes that emphasis on body is as important as it is on the mind. To this effect it has devised co-curricular and extra-curricular and sports activities to provide students with a comprehensive education.

St. Mary's schools attach great importance to co-curricular activities. All children are encouraged to develop some hobbies. A healthy mind a healthy body is the key to all-round development and this is ensured through various leisure activities and physical sports.

In today's highly competitive world, we have to bear a lot of mental stress and also have to get involved in so many things in order to acquire knowledge. This is where co-curricular activities play a very significant role. They help us get mental rest and also help us stay physically fit and healthy.

Being only brilliant in academics doesn't help a student become a responsible citizen of that country. A student should also be equally talented in other fields and even if not, they should at least pay some interest in them. It's because being both academically and co-curricular talented helps a student to face the world. This also helps in developing his/her personality. There is no doubt that academics are the priority in a student's life but it would be very wrong to say that co-curricular activities are a kind of hindrance to academic excellence. Students don't go to school only to study but they also go there to show their potentiality in other fields like sports, dance and music. Another advantage of co-curricular activities is that they help a student in building up their skills or nourishing their inner capabilities.
